Kind words can go along way,“Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy for the body” Proverbs 16:24. The way you speak can change the outcome of a situation or the way people interpret what you’re saying. Kind words, are the best words to use, especially in challenging situations, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” Proverbs 15:1. Sometimes we feel justified in being unkind to others, we may feel they deserve to feel the wrath of our emotions through our words, so we don’t want to be kind, but that doesn’t mean being kind isn’t expected/required of us as children of God. God holds us to a higher standard as His children, because He knows how damaging words can be and their long lasting affect, “Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves” Proverbs 11:17. As we grow in kindness here is a prayer below to help us as we journey in the way of becoming more kind with our words.
Lord help us to speak kindly to all those we come into contact with. Allow us to remain calm no matter the depth of the conversation. Allow our words to remain kind, even when that’s not how we are feeling. Help us to exercise authority over our flesh and activate self control when our defenses want to rise up. Please allow us to be a reflection of the loving kindness you have towards us, your children. May our desire to be kind over ride our desire to be right. May we find pleasure in being kind to all no matter the circumstances. Kindness shall sustain our life and displaying your love our motivation. We acknowledge that kindness is a reflection of the love we have within and that you are love. Lord we ask you to help us use kind words to pour life into others to build them up not tear them down. Lord you are mighty above all and we need you to complete this journey, as we are imperfect people striving to bring you glory in this area of our lives. We love you and we need you. Be with us and be our strength as your spirit continues to lead and guide us. In the authority of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.Amen.
